Inside Bordeaux Jane Anson - 11 Sep 24
Precision, clarity, tannins are fully present and still towards the front of the mouth. Cassis and blackberry fruits dominante, with waves of bitter chocolate and cocoa bean, this is young and has plenty of time ahead to soften further. Like so often wth Haut-Bailly, its charms are in what is happening under the surface, the layers of subtle flavours and aromatics that steal up on you and keep you engaged. Harvest September 25 to October 23, 60% new oak. Denis Dubourdieu consultant.

Vinous Neal Martin - 01 Feb 18
The 2008 Haut Bailly has long been one of the knockout wines of the vintage. Now at ten years of age it retains its youthful appearance. It has a stunning bouquet with billowing, pure blackberry and bilberry fruit tinged with brine and iodine, very well defined and one of the most intense you will find in 2008. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin. This feels lithe and silky smooth in the mouth: intense black fruit, a splash soy and a more structured finish. Just superb. (Tasted at the château and at BI Wine and Spirit’s annual vertical tasting.)

Pessac-Léognan, an esteemed Bordeaux appellation in the Graves region, is renowned for both red and white wines. The reds are elegant and complex, with earthy notes, blackcurrant, plum, tobacco, and graphite, supported by refined tannins and excellent ageing potential. The whites, primarily from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, are fresh, aromatic, and balanced, with citrus, tropical fruit, and floral notes, plus a creamy texture from barrel ageing. Top producers include Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, and Château Pape Clément.
